Attach a 2 foot wire to screwdriver as shown in Screwdriver Setup picture below. Attach wire to the ground strap that is around outside of picture tube.

Slide Screwdriver under suction cup of the anode lead as shown in Discharge Demo picture. This should cause an arch that can be heard. Hold screwdriver in this position for 30 seconds. Lift a section of the anode cup and push the terminal over to release anode cup from picture tube. On RCA sets push a screwdriver under cup as you are holding one side of cup up and using screwdriver push the terminal over to release it from tube. Pictures of these cups are shown to give a better view of what it looks like under the suction cup. Do not touch any metal part of this suction cup while releasing cup. There will be some slight amount of charge still on the anode.
